record-variants can not handle module-renamed records

Description
The recent change (4.6.1) to module-renamed record tags appears not to work with the record-variants extensions, which breaks coops as well.
I have reverted the module-renaming of records change in the core repo ("master" + "experimental") because I'm not sure there is a general solution to this problem.
